Reading and learning are important throughout life, but they are especially crucial in the first five years of a child’s life which is a critical period for building brain connections. These connections support language growth, learning pathways, and healthy emotional development. Regular shared reading strengthens vocabulary, listening skills, and early literacy while nurturing imagination and deepening bonds between children and caregivers.
Our staff are here to aid and enhance your child’s growth by providing materials (including books, hand-held manipulatives/toys), programming (STEM workshops, art classes), and events (marking cultural celebrations and the inspiration of books and fictional characters) all brought to you by expert staff ready to assist and guide you in selecting the right materials and activities for your child.
Reading 1000 books with your child before they enter Kindergarten is not as intimidating as it might sound! The staff at MPL want to support you in any way we can, including pre-packaged themed bundles of books available to check out and prizes for each milestone your child reaches. See one of our librarians to sign-up for the program.
MPL has several different storytimes to find the right one to suit your family and schedule.
- Twice-weekly storytime is geared for children who have not yet entered school.
- Family Storytime is held one weekend a month to be more convenient for working families.
- Baby and Me is a type of storytime for infants, focusing on caregiver bonding and social interactions.
